EMILY ALLCHURCH: IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF A MASTER | Manchester Art Gallery | 13 March - 8 June
Valette's originalIn what will be Allchurch's first UK solo exhibition in a public gallery, the London-based artist will use photography and a complex digital technique to recreate old master paintings.
Allchurch will use French Impressionist Adolphe Valette's famous painting of Albert Square, Manchester, 1910 as the basis for a newly commissioned centrepiece, alongside Allchurch's acclaimed Tokyo Story and Tokaido Road series. The image below compared with the one on the right is intriguing and beautifully realised.

SARAH LUCAS: TITS IN SPACE | The Whitworth | Until 19 July
One of the newly reopened Whitworth's more left field opening exhibitions, Tits In Space, sees the gallery walls covered with multiple pairs of cigarette-encrusted breast-like, planetoid orbs floating on a pitch black background (acting as loaded metaphors for the body and 'the formulaic ways in which we visualise it', of course). In front of the wallpaper collection sits a selection of sculptures by the internationally renowned British artist.

WELLCOME IMAGES 2015 | MOSI | Opens 19 March
The Museum of Science and Industry will for the second year running be one of very few UK science venues selected by global biomedical research charity, the Wellcome Trust, to showcase the twenty winning entries from this year's Wellcome Image Awards. The exhibition - on display in the original First Class waiting room - will include an image of a 5ft tall interactive multi-sensory unit designed to distract anxious children undergoing surgery.

GREATER GAME: FOOTBALL & 1WW | National Football Museum | Until September
This major exhibtion looks at the role played by football at home and on the frontline during the war years, exploring the myths and reality behind some of the conflict's famous footballing tales, including the FA Cup winner killed just days before the end of war to the soldier injured in battle who fought back to be England captain.
NEW ACQUISITIONS | The Whitworth | Until 16 August
Another of The Whitworth's opening ten exhibtions, New Acquisitions celebrates the gift of 90 contemporary works to the gallery by The Karpidas Foundation. The exhibition features works from a number of highly regarded names including: Laure Prouvost, Dorothy Cross, Nathan Coley, Anna Barriball and Gillian Wearing, Keith Coventry, Gary Hume, Dexter Dalwood and Michael Craig Martin.

Part of the Wonder Women festival 2015, Manchester’s feminist festival running from 1-31 March, this 'seductive and unnerving' exhibition of new and existing work - including sculpture, collage, performance and video co-curated with artist Sarah Hardacre - features retro porn, hypnotic censorship and Hugh Hefner in a bunny costume.

PANKHURST IN THE GALLERY | Manchester Art Gallery | 26 March
Another of the Wonder Woman festival's series of events sees Alexandra Arts taking over MAG's Thursday Lates to present this free arts event (5-8pm) celebrating the life and work of Emmeline Pankhurst. This event will explore the Suffragette movement in terms of fashion activism and empowerment and include an evening of workshops, music from female-DJs and a performance from Naomi Kashiwagi.

Reportage illustrator and artist George Butler has captured the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan and the impact on everyday life in the warring nation. His artworks, drawn live as events happened, offer a compelling insight into life away from foreign television cameras, in between the stories that make news headlines.

This startling work by Columbian artist Rafael Gómezbarros from London's Saatchi Gallery includes hundreds of 50cm ant sculptures constructed of two human skull casts. The intention of the artist is to represent the millions of displaced and faceless immigrants across the world.
