CONGRATULATIONS to Kate Goodman on her successful BBC TV debut in the revived Food And Drink alongside Michel ‘Masterchef’ Roux Jr. The personable proprietor of Reserve Wines of Didsbury dished out the drinks advice and avoided the pitfalls of following in the slurp-steps of Jilly Goolden in the original series.
Plummy-toned, flirty Jilly (right) famously couldn’t resist a fruity comparison. Sniffing a glass of Montepulciano she could detect not only plums but “a little heathery, hot heathland note as well”. That was a decade ago and to her credit Jilly was a wine expert who made the subject accessible. We’re all more savvy now, so Kate, 38, has a tougher task during the initial six show run (BBC2, 8.30pm Mondays. Cheers!
