Music - Manchester Scenewipe ‘All Killer All Dayer’ at Soup Kitchen and Kraak
The videophiles behind the Manchester Scenewipe website are hosting a whole day of live music and shenanigans from 12pm through to 3am. Some of the best local bands of the moment will be taking to the Soup Kitchen stage throughout the day and continuing at Kraak Gallery until the early hours, all in the name of charity. All proceeds from the ticketed event will go to the very worthy Mental Health Research UK. Alongside the likes of Eagulls, Patterns, Brown Brogues, Weird Era and Temple Songs will be a colossal list of forty five DJs spinning seven inch records throughout. You can even take your own along to have them played. As well as the musical feast on offer there will be merchandise stalls, prize giveaways, art shows and a special video demonstration by the Scenewipe boys. Music – 2012 Salford Music Festival
The third Salford Music Festival takes place over four days in 20 venues across Salford and features over 200 acts. On top of that 95 per cent of the events are free to the public. The onus is primarily on Salford bands and DJs with Mark E Smith’s The Fall playing three gigs – two at The Lowry on September 20 and 23 and one at Kersal Social Club on September 22. Karima Francis is also a notable mention on a staggering list of live Salfordian music. There is also a dedicated ‘Just For Kids’ line-up with all tickets being given away for free. Tour - BBC Tours at Media City
Now that Auntie Beeb has properly settled in to her fancy new home at Salford Quays she’s flinging the doors open for official tours to the public. Now home to the likes of Match Of The Day, Mastermind and Blue Peter the tours offer a chance to see behind the scenes of these BBC institutions at the new Media City Towers. A special interactive tour for children aged between 6 and 11-years-old is also available to teach kids about their favourite CBBC programmes and give them a chance to practise at being a presenter. Tours take place every Saturday and Sunday at 10.30am and 10.45am lasting for around 90 minutes. Tickets are available here.

Food - Manchester Food And Drink Festival 2012
The annual festival celebrating everyone’s two favourite pastimes – eating and drinking – is back. The festival opens this Friday (September 21) and runs until October 7. With just under three weeks to satisfy your most gluttonous desires, the opening weekend has more than enough to get you started. First up the designated Festival Hub of Albert Square will play host to the Independent Producers Fair until Sunday 23 September, showcasing some of the best local and regional produce. The Hub will also feature a pop-up bar from fruity cocktail purveyors The Liars Club. Other festival highlights include copious offerings of beer, cider, whisky, cheese, cake and a whole range of gourmet delights and live cookery demonstrations. Dance - Swan Lake
Tchaikovsky’s great love story is brought to life on the Lowry Theatre stage this weekend with the last performance of the short run on Saturday 22 September. Arguably the most famous dance combines with breathtaking music to create the timeless story of Swan Lake. A woman who is cursed to live her days as a Swan is discovered by a lonely Prince who sets about trying to make her his bride. Performed by the Birmingham Royal Ballet company who have been praised by critics for their production of Swan Lake: 'An unqualified triumph' (Financial Times), tickets are priced between £17 and £39 and are available here.

Entertainment - Wilmslow Car Show
The engine roar on Wilmslow’s streets will sound a little different this weekend as a display of super cars rolls into town. The rare luxury cars will be parked along the main pedestrianised road in Wilmslow on Saturday 22 September for motor enthusiasts to examine and chat with the dealers. Etihad is also flying in a special vehicle over from Abu Dhabi to take centre stage at the event – a current Formula 1 car. Two local enthusiasts will also be auctioning thrill seekers’ trips in either a Lamborghini Aventador or Aston Martin for charity.

Music – Hoya Hoya Club Night
Regular attendees to the double-monikered club night at The Roadhouse can celebrate as the monthly Hoya ho-down returns one week early this month. Continuing their massively successful secret series, a mystery guest will take to the stage alongside residents Illum Sphere, Jonny Dub, Krystal Klear and Chunky. Recent surprise guests in the series have included Four Tet, Mary Anne Hobbs, Falty DL and Blue Daisy. Advance tickets are priced at £6 and available here.

Cinema – Terracotta Film Festival
The Cornerhouse is playing host to the fourth annual Terracotta Film Festival this weekend, showcasing some stunning cinematic delights from the Far East. The UK’s largest Asian film showcase this year includes the first ever film to be made under the censors’ radar in Burma (Return To Burma) and the most ambitious and expensive Korean war epic ever made (My Way).
