Eat
Head over to the Northern Quarter for a cracking fish meal at the Sole Restaurant on Turner Street. You could start off with a mackerel a la plancha before a main course of smoked Pollock paella with pimento sauce (be careful pronouncing those Ps) and end with a Tahitian vanilla and orange rice pudding with plums for pudding. The restaurant also has a downstairs bar with soulful music.

Drink
Go for drinks at The Alchemist in Spinningfields. They have a large selection of drinks and cocktails and the bartenders will show off their skills whilst preparing the drinks and flambéing a fruit or two. A white Cosmo with a frozen orchid sounds like the drink to have for the start of spring.

The Australian Pink Floyd Show is on at O2 Apollo Manchester on Sunday, 4 March. They've been called 'The best tribute band in the world' by the Sunday Times and have sold over three million concert tickets in 35 countries. This is truly a concert for all Pink Floyd fans.

The ever popular event Mr Scruff Keep It Unreal at Band on the Wall in the Northern Quarter is on Saturday night. It's a melting pot of music with jazz, soul, hip-hop, dubstep and more. Dance all your worries away.

Go and see The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. A group of retired Brits relocate to an Indian hotel thinking they're in for a life of leisure only to find that reality doesn't quite match the adverts. Festival
Celebration Day at the Manchester Histories Festival on Saturday features over 80 exhibitors, talks, cookery demonstrations, walks, tours, games and workshops for free. The events take place at the Town Hall and Friend's Meeting House, as well as on other city locations throughout the day.

International Women’s Day 2012 also takes place on Sunday from 11am – 6pm at Manchester Town Hall. A host of free activities will be on offer relating to the themes, Recognise, Represent, and Resolve. There will be workshops and talks from women in the music industry including Liz Kershaw, BBC Radio 6 and Jo Good BBC 6 Music. School children from Whalley Range High School and the Manchester Coperative Academy will also be showcasing their work on their timeline project of women’s history which includes famous women as well as personal stories from women in their families. Tour
Confidential editor Jonathan Schofield, will run a series of guided tours for Manchester Histories Festival on Celebration Day this Saturday. His tours include The Peterloo Massacre Tour, Friedrich Engels in Manchester and A Tour Of Uninteresting Objects. Opera
Head over to the Lowry on Friday 2 March for some culture and see the world famous Italian opera Madama Butterfly. Written by Giacomo Puccini, Madama Butterfly tells the story of a young woman whose innocent love is rewarded with acts of betrayal.

King Gong night at The Comedy Store on Deansgate this Sunday is the Comedy Store's monthly showcase for new acts. It gives amateur comedians the chance to test their material on the Comedy Store audience who then chose a winner. Who will be crowned King Gong?

Family
Round up the kids on Sunday morning for The Lowry's family ballroom workshop. It's taught by Darren Hulme, ballroom teacher and choreographer, and the class is suitable for everyone aged 8 years and over.
