Art - Hockney to Hogarth Exhibition, Whitworth Art Gallery
The Whitworth Gallery has long been home to the influential William Hogarth’s 18^th Century series of prints ‘The Rakes Progress’. The gallery has now been given the contemporary works of the same name by David Hockney. Hockney was inspired by Hogarth’s original series to create his own witty take across a range of different mediums including prints, musical performance and poetry. The ‘Hockney To Hogarth’ exhibition will see the two artists’ work displayed side by side as they tell the visual story of their characters trip to New York through two different centuries. The exhibition will run until 3 February and is free to all.

Entertainment - Science Festival, MOSI
Manchester’s sixth annual science extravaganza kicks off this weekend at the Museum of Science and Industry. This nine-day festival offers countless opportunities to experiment, create and play for all ages in the name of science. Highlights include air-purifying eco jeans, outdoor adrenaline-fuelled performances and a campervan called Lionel. The results of the worldwide citizen experiment ‘Turing’s Sunflowers’ will also be revealed. For listings of the packed events programme click here.

Entertainment - 50 Years of Bond, Whitewall Galleries
Coinciding with the 007’s next outing in ‘Skyfall’ is this unique collection of gadgetry and weaponry from James’ many escapades and adventures over the years. The collection features the world’s largest private assortment of screen used Bond prop pistols including Sean Connery’s last pistol from ‘Never Say Never Again’, Timothy Dalton’s PPK from ‘The Living Daylights’ and Daniel Craigs Walthjer P99 pistol from ‘Casino Royale’. Plus the infamous Golden Gun will also be on display but your gold can stay in your pocket as the exhibition is free for its duration until Saturday 3 November. 50 Years Of Bond

Club – Platoon, NQ Live (Moho)
Club night Platoon returns after a two year hiatus away from Manchester to the newly refurbished NQ Live, formerly Moho, complete with a brand new top range Void soundsystem. The Platoon guys promise ‘two rooms of beats and bass for all it’s soldiers’, plus as it’s a Halloween special fancy dress is essential. Music through the night is provided by Chimpo and MC Fox (True Tiger) plus Stylus and Fusion (Unity Radio) among others. As well as this the first fifty soldiers through the doors get a free drink at the bar, presumably it’ll be shots in keeping with the theme. Visit the Facebook page here.

Halloween – Spooky LEGO Halloween, Trafford Centre
Build your own spooky fun with everyone’s favourite Danish bricks this Halloween. The Legoland Discovery Centre located at the Trafford Centre is celebrating the spooky season in true Lego style. Build a scarecrow or your very own vampire castle in the workshop or hunt for ghostly Minifigures in Mini land. Festival - Kings Arms Festival, Salford
The Channel 4 sitcom pub of choice never seems to have a quiet events calendar and this weekend is no exception. Sponsored by Robinson’s Brewery, the Kings Arms will host a full day of comedy, music and unexpected surprises from 1pm – 11pm on Saturday 27 October. Appearing at the indoor two stage festival will be comedians, Rich Wall, Danny Sutcliffe, Melissa Johnson and Gary Bearsworth, with music from Soulful Voices, Hungry Bentley and Death To The Strange to name but a few. The festival will also host an outdoor bar and BBQ whatever the weather.

Art – Manchester Print Fair, 2022NQ
Manchester Print Fair returns this weekend, this time at the Northern Quarter’s newest creative hub – 2022NQ on Dale Street. The fair will celebrate and showcase the best of design, art, photography, traditional print making skills and digital techniques. The fair established last year by designer Alessandra Mostyn has close ties with Manchester’s creative community, many of whom will be on hand to demonstrate and display their original works. Screen printer and illustrator Savwo will be displaying his distinctive designs based on 1950’s horror comics and emerging aritsts', Lyndsey Greene, Jamie Mills and Chloe Nugent find a platform for their original work, utilising hand-drawn and digital methods to create one-off works, referencing nature, native America and horror films. Workshops and activities will run throughout the day which is open and free to all.

Manchester Print Fair

Music – Seams, Soup Kitchen
Every Friday Soup Kitchen runs it’s Be My Guest clubnight inviting different DJs each week to come and start the weekend off properly. This week that honour falls to Hampshire-via-Berlin based producer Seams a new bedroom-style producer who has made an impact on certain UK sectors with his debut release ‘Tourist/Sleeper’ on Full Time Hobby. Around Welch’s use of repetition lurks the shadowy hand of Four Tet through the fuzz and circling chimes. Tickets are priced at £3 and are available here.

Kids – October Half Term at Imperial War Museum North
Visitors to IWM North this October half-term, little and large alike, can learn all about life on the frontline and even play the role of wartime doctors and nurses. This series of free family events ranges from hearing tales of stretcher bearers in WWII, to seeing real human X-rays, plus dress up opportunities and the chance create your own souvenirs to take home. Charity – Lace Bridal breast Cancer Campaign, Hale
Ladies! Wedding dress boutique Lace Bridal are after your wedding dresses. At least they want you to wear them once again for a good cause. On Sunday 28 October, Brides of the past are invited to dig out that special dress and gather at Lace Bridal in Hale at 11.30am in support of the pink ribbon campaign.
