Get yourself Filmed Up on Friday at Cornerhouse’s evening screening of short films that are being produced here in the North West. The films are from grassroots guerrilla filmmakers to start-up production companies and are shown in the Annexe.

Take your kids to the Lowry for the Under 5s First Steps on Friday. There they learn how to express themselves through movement whilst developing agility, strength and physical awareness. The themes that will be used include the Nutckracker, the Park and the Circus.

Film
Make sure to catch the new Sci-Fi action movie The Hunger Games which takes place in a post-apocalyptic North America. Each year 24 teenagers are chosen to fight to the death with one another in a TV arena and the story follows young Katniss Everdeen in her fight for survival.

Don't miss out on Manchester-based comedian Sarah Millican performing her new act Thoroughly Modern Millican at the O2 Apollo on Friday and Saturday. In her new act she addresses topics such as how to make a homemade treadmill and the practicalities of an orgy. After TV apperances on Mock the Week, 8 Out Of 10 cats, Michael McIntyre‘s Comedy Roadshow and more she has become a household name to many.

Concert
Catch a concert with Feist on Monday night where this Canadian indie singer follows her fourth album, Metals. The album was named the best album in 2011 by The New York Times and The Globe and Mail. Feist was also nominated for Best International Female Artist at the 2012 BRIT Awards for Metals.

Eat
Taps bar and restaurant is a self-service beer venue, located on the ground floor in the Great Northern Tower. For a cracking Saturday meal give their menu a go. Given it's a beer themed place the starter has to be Rochefort 8" beer base pizzeta before a main of roast salt marsh lamb rump and slow cooked shoulder. Go for the dark Belgian chocolate truffle cake for pudding and wash it all down with some beer you've served yourself.

Maybe we should give it a chance. Although it hasn't the best of reps, perhaps nip into Bluu in the Northern Quarter over the weekend for a drink or two. Their Hollywood Martini with vanilla vodka, passion fruit liqueur, passion fruit purée and vanilla syrup served with a shot of Champagne on the side is just the weekend treat you deserve. For those looking out for their figure for the beach this summer Bluu also has a skinny cocktail menu with drinks like G and Tea, gin with agave syrup, camomile tea and lemon juice.

One night only
For those longing for the good-old-days, The Hangout returns on Friday night for one night only with original DJ Dave Booth. He was Stone Roses DJ back in the glory days and a major figure in the city's music history. Booth will be there alongside the original Hangout team Gino Brandolani, Paul Clements and Derek Goodwin. This event will be held at the Tunnel in Whitworth.

Catch Matthew Bourne‘s Nutcracker! On Saturday at the Lowry. It‘s one of the most popular dance productions ever staged in the UK and it returns to Manchester on its 20th anniversary. Nutcracker! follows Clara‘s journey from a bleak Christmas Eve through a winter wonderland in the candy kingdom of Sweetieland.
