Exhibition: Developing - Photographs by Mary McCartney, Lowry, Salford, Running until 19 June
Having graced fashion magazines and galleries alike, Mary McCartney is no stranger to glamour and culture with her latest world renowned photographs currently on display at the Lowry. Fresh from having photographed her equally famous sibling Stella’s designs for Comic Relief, this solo exhibition showcases her individual style, capturing a number of famous faces in off guard portraits. A particular point of interest is ‘The Radical Women’ - a gallery devoted to revolutionary figures from the world of art and performance, and part of Manchester’s ‘Wonder Women: Radical Manchester’ programme (available here).
The exhibition also features a number of pieces from her earlier work ‘Off Pointe - A Photographic Study Of The Royal Ballet After Hours’, which showcased the chaotic behind the scenes world of the Corps de ballet.

Talk: ‘Mancunian Freuds’, John Rylands Library, Deansgate,23 March 12-1pm
Learn something new about the ‘pop’ psychologist by discovering his links with Manchester in this exploration of letters between the Freud family. View correspondence between the daddy of psychoanalysis, and his close family based in the city and gain an interesting insight not only into his private life, but his association with Manchester. Gig: From Another Place presents Base Ventura & Kaatskill Mountains, Dulcimer Bar, Chorlton, 21 March 8pm
Start your weekend early south of the city at Dulcimer Bar, where From Another Place will be showcasing their usual brand of noise, leaving Chorlton’s ears ringing for the rest of the weekend. Come and see Twisted Tapes very own see psyche revivalists Base Ventura in one of their few Manchester gigs, supported by the equally astonishing noise band Kaatskill Mountains. Johnny Marr is a man who needs little introduction in Manchester. His musical reputation well and truly precedes him from beginnings in The Smiths to his recent stint in The Cribs. Join the Manchester guitar legend as he returns home, rounding off his first solo tour for ‘The Messenger’. See Marr at his best, performing his eponymous single along with fast favourite album tracks ‘I Want The Heartbeat’, ‘European Me’ and ‘Upstarts’. Event: Speed of Light, Lowry Outlet Mall, 21-23 March 8pm each night
See the Lowry Outlet Mall a glow for Speed of Light, which sees the Quays lit up by scores of illuminated runners. Originally a centrepiece of the Edinburgh International Festival, Speed of Light is a choreographed pattern of lights created by runners lit up by LED suits making their way across the bridges and buildings of Salford Quays. Recently staged in Yokohama, Japan, registration for this unique event is now open to all those able to run a 5K, with participants receiving a goody bag and their own high tech T-shirt. Festival: Salford Sonic Fusion Festival, University of Salford, 21-24 March
Fans of experimental music should head to The Salford Sonic Fusion festival, held at the university's campus. Held over four days and directed by Stephen Davismoon, the Sonic Fusion Festival seeks to showcase a range of experimental music such as; sound installations, interactive pieces, a world premiere of brand new pieces and commissions. A particular gem of the festival is the University of Salford’s Brass Band performing ‘Salford Toccata’(1989), a piece specially composed by renowned Harrison Birtwistle.
