The Big Event - The Manchester Weekender 2012
A long weekend of art, culture, music, film, food, festivals, literature, walks, politics, poetry, photography, theatre and spectacle. (11-14 October 2012). These are a series of one-off, intimate and often unusual events that sum up the city, placing international artists, musicians, festivals and writers into some of the city's most beautiful settings.
From performance art to pop-up cinema, from music premieres to intimate gigs, from superstar authors to Britain's best bloggers, from art exhibitions to secret theatre, The Manchester Weekender features dozens of events and hundreds of artists - in some of the city's most iconic and historic spaces. Gig – Cheryl Cole at Manchester Arena
This Saturday’s date will be Cheryl's first Manchester Arena appearance since opening The Black Eyed Peas' two sold-out shows in May 2010. What to expect? Well as Ed Power (Telegraph) commented after seeing Cheryl at the O2 Arena in Dublin recently, ‘pop shows at this level are as much about the ravishing outfits and gratuitous torso-baring as the actual songs.’ Alas if seeing show girl Cheryl is more important to you than hearing her sing, book your £35 tickets here now.

Out And About - 1910 Bike Ride
This is a tour of the city on two wheels. Guides Emma Fox and Kate Dibble uncover the remnants of the early 20th century: the ‘war to end all wars’, Manchester Ship Canal, Trafford Park Village, and Manchester United’s move to Old Trafford, pedalling along two of Manchester’s most significant canals to the Imperial War Museum North.
Particpants must bring their own bike and lock and expect to cycle on road and occasionally narrow/muddy track. Adults and accompanied teens should meet at Victoria Station entrance at 10.30am on Sunday 14 October. Tickets cost £5 per person and are available here.

Club - Rich Reason At Underdog (Black Dog Ballroom NWS)

Tour – Behind The Scenes At BBC North
Want to know what goes on behind closed doors at the new home of the BBC? See where some BBC favourites are made and make your own TV production in the interactive studio on Saturday 13 October, thanks to the Manchester Weekender - see above. Shopping - The Vintage Village, Stockport
Stockport's own international icon of glamour, Sabrina, is the poster girl for this Sunday’s vintage fair in Stockport’s covered market hall. For those who don’t know, Sabrina was a 1950s glamour model/actress known for being one of the most photographed women of her era. Now living the high life in Hollywood, Sabrina’s glam squad will be helping The Vintage Village present a fitting tribute to her enduring star power this weekend.
Stockport's magnificent market hall will also be full of the usual stalls heaving with genuine vintage clothing and accessories for men and women, homeware, decor, furniture, luggage, textiles, collectables and curios.

Food - Harvey Nichols
Harvey Nichols Brasserie has a great autumn menu on the go. The elegant space on the second floor has cracked it with some equally elegant food. For a cheeky little plate grab the crab fritters at £6.25. These are moist and exquisite with the crab very evident but also lots of clever little tricks going on with the beetroot and the lush plum and ginger jam. Norman Cook’s alter ego, Fatboy Slim, is coming to Manchester this Friday, 12 October. Art - The First Cut
Jaw-droppingly beautiful art made from paper to delight and enthral. In this wonderful exhibition thirty one international artists cut, sculpt and manipulate paper to create astonishing visions that vary in scale from a walk-through forest of paper to miniature and captivating worlds and paper birds.
