Grill on the Alley isn’t one to rest on its laurels - already a Manchester dining institution, the restaurant now boasts a Himalayan rock salt maturation chamber as part of its recent refurbishment, alongside some impressive new cocktails and wholesome menu additions.

You’ll never think about a steak sandwich the same way again…
We particularly welcome the arrival of a brand new lunch menu, which includes one of six dishes, plus a glass of house wine or a beer for £14.95. It’s available Monday to Saturday, 12-5pm, and saves the pain of having to choose from the a la carte - where you’ll inevitably end up wanting everything.
Here’s what you can tuck into…
Smoked haddock
This pan-fried haddock fillet comes with a fluffy potato cake, generously drizzled with homemade béarnaise sauce. It’s accompanied by fresh rocket, tomatoes and micro ruby chard - making for a balanced meal that’s blimmin’ delicious to boot (as with all the lunch menu, we speak from firsthand experience).

Piri piri pulled chicken burger
Be warned, this one’s got a kick. If you can handle some heat, however, you’re in for a treat: whole roast chicken, shredded and seasoned with homemade tomato relish and piled into pretzel bun with lettuce and red onion - topped off with an optional gherkin. Another warning; the little pan of accompanying hand-cut chips are particularly moreish.

Cauliflower mac and cheese
A clever fusion of two popular classics, we can confirm this warming hybrid - drizzled with parsley and crispy shallots - does justice to both. It comes with two grilled ciabatta slices, half a clove of garlic and a pot of olive oil so you can customise your garlic bread just the way you like it.

Steak frites
Like the best steak frites you’ve ever had, and then some – this dish comprises a large 6oz sirloin with a good portion of hand-cut chips. Steak, as you may well know, is a Blackhouse Grill speciality: making for meat that’s extra juicy and bursting with flavour.

Blackhouse steak sandwich
Unusually served in a hollowed loaf, this impressive-looking sandwich is, unsurprisingly, a menu favourite.
A medley of fillet beef strips, mushrooms, onion confit, and gravy is served up in a bread bowl with a melted Gruyère cheese topping, accompanied by hand cut chips. You’ll never think about a steak sandwich the same way again…

Roast chicken breast
Pearl barley cous cous, diced tomato, baby spinach, and roasted chicken - you could well be in Morocco with this dish, particularly as it’s dressed with a refreshing mint yoghurt. Sunshine on a plate.
All dishes come served with a beer or glass of house white or red wine, so you can lunch in style.
