Standout brunch dishes, fresh burgers, new lunch favourites and more
The Pen and Pencil has a new menu. We’ve nibbled and tasted and downright scoffed our way through to bring you our favourite dishes. It’s a hard life.
First things first. Brunch.
When it’s been one of those days and we don’t feel our A-list selves, we perk things up with a Bronx Melt
We love the barbarian breakfast burrito. As the name of the dish suggests, this brings out your uncivilised side, shoving mouthful after mouthful of hash brown, scrambled egg, bacon and sausage in because it’s too good to stop. Ok so we have Hollandaise on our chin and hot sauce on our t-shirt. And?
The buckwheat banana pancakes are equally tasty and they’re vegan. Plus they come with blueberries so they are pretty healthy too. Can we get it on prescription?
Next up, it’s our pick of the new lunch dishes. This part of the menu has had a total overhaul and it’s hard to pick a favourite so we’ve picked three. The freekeh salad with emerald tahini is what we’ll always have when we’re being good and we’ll throw in some extra halloumi too. It feels like something Gwyneth Paltrow would eat and it tastes great. The Earl Grey soaked raisins really give the grains some extra pop.
When it’s been one of those days and we don’t feel our A-list selves, we perk things up with a Bronx Melt or chicken and waffles. Who doesn’t love fried chicken? And slow cooked beef is always going to make you feel better.
The Pen and Pencil is our go-to for all-day eating so we can’t go with out recommending a burger and some beer snacks. The buttermilk chermoula cod burger is the perfect fish and chips hit in burger form. And if you’re having a beer, have it with some jalapeno poppers. You can thank us later. Hungrier than that? Add some garbage fries. Not sure about the name because we like ranch sauce, bacon, chilli and parmesan on our chips and we don’t want the bin men to take them away, thanks very much.
It's not just about the food. The Pen and Pencil have ‘shaken’ things up with their drinks too. New shakes. But the thing about these shakes is that every option has a hard version. To be honest, we found drinking their Jaffa shake with a Triple Sec upgrade very easy indeed.
