THE second outing of the newly formed Confidential Dinner Club was a night to remember, if somewhat vaguely with a sore head the next day.
It was a great opportunity for us to meet a slice of our readership, dive into consistently good food from RBG, and get pissed on Gordo’s credit card
Held in the light, airy environs of Restaurant Bar & Grill’s chic conservatory, it was the perfect setting for a mid-summer night’s get-together over exquisite food and wine.
RBG did us proud with their spot-on seasonal dishes. Crab on toast with crushed broad beans, pea shoots and lemon dressing brought together the best of British summer flavours in one sublime starter.
The main of rib-eye steak was outstanding. Charcoal and crisp on the outside but melt-in-your-mouth medium in the middle, it was packed with flavour and cooked to perfection. The garlic broccoli side was another highlight.
A light dessert of grilled strawberries was just right after the robust main, and the Pimms and vanilla ice cream was a nice touch, evoking the classic British summer.
But the food is only half the story at these events. Confidential readers mingle with Confidential writers. Always an interesting combination.
Says David Blake, our assistant editor, “It was a great opportunity for us to crawl from behind the sanctuary of the site and meet a slice of our readership, dive into consistently good food from RBG, and get pissed on Gordo’s credit card.
“The Confidential readers are a hugely differential bunch. It’s refreshing to see a demographic refuse to fall into an actual demographic; we had creative agency young-guns rubbing shoulders with bed showroom owners.
“My table were a blast throughout. It’s handy for us to hear what we’re doing right and when we need to wind our necks in.”
We’re all looking forward to the next one. Our accountant, less so.
We are in the middle of planning another foodie frolic for September’s Confidential Dinner Club. If you’d like to be added to our Dinner Club mailing list to get first details, email rebeccar@theconfidentials.co.uk
