IT will come as no surprise that we eat out a lot. An 'eck of a lot.

So we've decided to round up the very best things we throw down our necks each week so that you, dear reader, know not only which Manchester restaurants to eat in, but what to order once you get there.

There'll be no snobbery here, from cheese on toast to Sunday Roast, donner meat to moules frites, Byrne to Biryani, if we've scoffed it and rated it, then it makes the cut.

And don't forget to catch more 'food porn' via Confidential's Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Here's the best things we ate this week...

The Best Things We Ate This Week

Our food experts name the finest things they've chucked down their necks this week.

Evelyn's - Tagliatelle, Hazelnut, Basil, Tomatoes, Parmesan - £12

They call it Tagliatelle, Hazelnut, Basil, Tomatoes, Parmesan. Gordo calls it Tagliatelle Pesto. Apart from an execution every bit as sharp as Henry VIII’s favourite axe man, the addition of toasted hazelnut and roasted tomatoes is genius. Bangin’. Gordo

Asha's - Chilli Garclic King Prawns - £17.95

The prawns at Asha's are the best in town, by a mile. Marinated in garlic they are juicy, joyous and very, very meaty. Exquisite food. Jonathan Schofield

Comptoir Libanais - Mixed Grill - £13.25

Highly spiced, each cut of meat treated differently, flavours that pull you off a hot, dusty street into a side alley and give you a good rogering. Gordo

Well Hung - Steak flatbread with salad and quail egg - £5.50

A great value feed from Leftbank Kitchen's latest street foodsters, Well Hung. It's surprising, but a high-quality steak sarnie is not easy to find in Manchester... especially for under a tenner. This lot have cracked it. David Blake

King Street Tavern - Full English - £18

Well, firstly, it’s not on King Street, it's on Booth Street. Fortunately, the English breakfast at King Street on Booth Street isn’t a poncey French continental effort. This could satisfy a big hairy Viking. The black pudding is lush, the sausages porky, the bacon crunchy, tomato cooked through and eggs runny and yellow yolked. Big prices at £18, but you get all the trimmings. Fill yer boots and you won’t need lunch. Gordo

Northern Soul - Ham & Swiss Grilled Cheese - £5.50

One of two places in Manchester you'll find folk queuing outside in the pissing rain on a Monday (the other being Greggs Spinningfields, depressingly), in but a couple of years this open-fronted Northern Quarter grilled cheese shed has achieved a cult following many nearby NQ veterans would shop their grannies for... David Blake

Habesha - Awaze Tibs - £6.50

We took a gamble on the lamb-based Awaze Tibs, which turnsed out to be the dish of the night. The light yet pungent hot pepper gravy pocked with tender hunks of lamb brings to mind my favourite Indian curry, lamb nihari, on a diet. Ruth Allan

Bakchich - Shish Taouk Salad - £6.95

Charcoal grilled chicken marinated in Lebanese spices on a bed of lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, cucumber, olives and radish with lemon juice & olive oil. A huge portion for only £6.95. One for sharing, add a side of Arabic bread if you're really hungry.

Common - Popcorn Cockles - £4

Finally, someone has been brave enough to resurrect that most underrated of mollusc, the cockle. They come popcorned here, which initially sounds revolting, but really just means a light batter and frying with a dash of salt, vinegar and a few chillies to wake you up a bit. I dare you to find a better bar snack. David Blake
