Catch some rays while enjoying some sunny flavours
WE’VE got some new summer dishes, Blue Lobster told us, so we flagged down a cab and made a beeline for Alderley Edge.
Beautifully presented, with gorgeous green, red and pink colours, the astice alla catalana was pretty as a picture and almost looked too good to eat
It’s the perfect place for dinner and drinks during the warmer months – the big outside terrace catches the sun and the food is like a breath of fresh air. We made ourselves at home – sunnies on, Cosmopolitan and Pina Colada cocktails and flute of Italian fizz Franciacorta to hand – then got down to the tricky business of deciding what to eat.
Straight off, we picked the astice alla catalana – a Sardinian salad dish using mini lobster (astice). Beautifully presented, with gorgeous green, red and pink colours, it was pretty as a picture and almost looked too good to eat. Don’t be daft – of course we demolished it!
We followed up with another astice dish – the gnocchetti. Homemade dough dumplings were tossed in an aubergine and cherry tomato sauce, topped with lobster pieces, wild clams, shell on, and shredded basil. So summery – the flavour of holidays next to the Med.
The lobster burger looked a handful, but we got to grips with the big flavours – avocado, mango, cucumber, lime and chives, plus salsa brava (like the patatas tapas dish) – and even put paid to the skinny fries.
Then we sat back and enjoyed the rays.
