SAN CARLO Group has finished work on a £700k revamp of its flagship Manchester restaurant on King Street West.

The restaurant has been closed since Monday 6 August but will re-open for business on Friday 31 August at 6pm – just in time for the weekend.

Moving our ancillary areas downstairs means we can also slightly increase the capacity of the dining room

The UK’s leading independent restaurant company earmarked the funds for Manchester to enable the award-winning restaurant, a favourite with sports stars and celebrities, to create new facilities and refurbish existing ones to give everything a fresh new feel.

Changes include the creation of new patisserie and ice cream making facilities and the relocation of customer toilets to lower ground floor, a full replacement of the kitchen floor, and room for 40 extra covers in the main dining area.

Plans are still on-going for the creation of a new private dining room, and the work is expected to be completed over the next few weeks.

Commenting on the investment at San Carlo Manchester, Marcello Distefano, managing director of the Group, said: “The past seven years have been a great success for the Manchester restaurant.

“It very quickly became our flagship in both turnover and size and in due course has taken quite a battering. We decided it needed to be freshened up; we also wanted to create new space by developing the basement of the restaurant.

“At last this will allow us to create a private dining room upstairs, something that’s been requested time and again over the years. Moving our ancillary areas downstairs means we can also slightly increase the capacity of the dining room, as San Carlo is full every night this is a great added bonus.”

Part of the phenomenally successful, Italian family-owned San Carlo Group of restaurants, the Manchester venue was established seven years ago.

The group now has two Manchester eateries with San Carlo Cicchetti located opposite the flagship restaurant, a further eight UK-wide authentic Italian restaurants, and Signor Sassi venues in Beirut, Kuwait and Bangkok.

San Carlo Group restaurants have won numerous awards and recognition from local and national media. Accolades include the UK’s Best Italian Restaurant (Italian Food Association) industry-leading Les Routiers in Britain Hospitality and Service, inclusion in The Times newspaper ‘Top 10 Italian Restaurants’ and a listing in Harden’s Restaurant Guide.
