The Piccolino brand is also affected by group's decision

Individual Restaurants Company has announced it is to close four restaurants within its 28-strong restaurant estate, including the Piccolino and Bar & Grill brands.

This includes Manchester's renowned Restaurant Bar & Grill on John Dalton Street. The ever-popular terrace will still be open throughout August and bottomless brunches will be available every Sunday until the restaurant closes.

Our own Jonathan Schofield wrote:

"RBG was the original slick mid-range dining spot for Manchester professionals and would-be professionals. You couldn't move in the place without tripping over property developers and lawyers and their buckets of champagne. Nothing wrong with that of course and lots of money for RBG too.

"It stood out from the opposition with its 'City' atmosphere and its service which has always been excellent. It found itself a niche in Manchester (and then Liverpool and Leeds) and worked the arse off it.

"The food was quick to the table, with good ingredients and handsome to look at. It probably introduced the notion of a Thai fish cake to the North.

"The name summed up the whole place. No nonsense. To the point.

Restaurant.

Bar.

Grill."

The last day of trading will be 5 September 2021. The affected restaurants are: Piccolino, Clitheroe; Piccolino, York; The Restaurant Bar & Grill, Manchester and The Alderley Bar & Grill, Cheshire.

The closures see 140 jobs affected, with the business entering a period of consultation at each of the above restaurants.

Karen Forrester, Executive Chairperson of Individual Restaurants Company, commented: “The closure of these sites is part of a long-term investment and development plan for the future of Individual Restaurants.  Our main priority is to keep our people within our Individual Restaurants family by offering opportunities to relocate to other Individual Restaurants’ locations, we will be supporting them throughout this process.”
