FOLK from TV, music, media and other people with faces packed into Red's True Barbecue last week as the American Deep-South BBQ restaurant got all wet - launching a new late-night bar offering.
"It's such a great site. We don't want to waste this space."
Having given Albert Square a big barbecue-toed boot up the jacksie back in February 2014, and more recently, ticking off a good number of veggies with their Citizen's Responsible Advice Partnership (C.R.A.P.) ‘Save a Veggie’ marketing campaign, the guys decided to make the most of their bombastic £1m neon reimagining of the former Shipping Agent's Building by securing a late licence.
"We've got more space to play around with here than in our original Leeds site," said James Douglas, co-owner of Red's. "So we thought why not put on some great bands, DJs and open later as a bar as well as a restaurant. It's such a great site. We don't want to waste this space."
With a roster of live music buoyed by craft beers, buckets, cocktails, shakes, floats, wine and boilermakers (eh? beer cocktails we're told), Red’s is primed to ruin a good number of your mornings. As it did on Friday.
Red's True Barbecue, 22 Lloyd Street, Albert Square, M2 5WA. 0161 820 9140
The launch went something like this:
