FC UNITED of Manchester have secured the Evo-Stik Premier Division title and gained promotion to the Conference North. FC won 1-0 against Stourbridge on Tuesday with Greg Daniels scoring in the 69th minute.

On 29 May FC United Manchester welcome Portuguese giants and two-time European Cup winners Benfica to play one of the first games to be played at their new home, Broadhurst Park

The club was founded in 2005 after fans objected to a hostile takeover of Manchester United by American businessman, Malcom Glazer. A principal grievance were loans taken by Glazer secured against the club's own assets. FC have come a long way in ten years and are about to open their purpose built stadium, Broadhurst Park. This was made possible by a crowd funding initiative allowing fans to buy community shares and preserve common ownership of the club.

The £2m was raised by fans meaning the club's owners will always have its best interest at heart. The strong community harmony the share scheme displayed has enabled the club to draw down grants of £3m enabling the stadium to be built at a final cost of £6.3m. The example has already inspired other clubs such as Wrexham, Portsmouth and Lewes to follow in their footsteps.

The Moston ground boasts 700 seats and much desired standing terraces for around 3,800 fans.  Safe standing was asked for by the fans, the fans got it. The bar and function rooms are ready to be used and will eventually serve ale brewed in FC’s own microbrewery. The building will be open to the community. Anyone can hire the artificial pitch in front of the main stand with teams using the first-team dressing room.

On 29 May FC United Manchester welcome Portuguese giants and two-time European Cup winners Benfica to play one of the first games to be played at their new home, Broadhurst Park. The match is part of the club’s tenth anniversary celebrations of the club forming.

The facilities are looking like they’ll be some of the best a non-league side has seen and should continue to keep them at the top of their game. Work was expected to be finished in October last year but problems with the steel work and storing materials meant FC had to share grounds with Stalybridge Celtic. There’s a confident buzz that the 29 May date for completion will be met. Benfica should have a ground to play in. Admission details for the Benfica fixture will be announced closer the date of the game.
