THIS year, there’s a whole host of ways you can get involved and mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT).

For the sportier types amongst you, or simply those wishing to get fit, why not join Team Pride and take on the BUPA Great Manchester Run. It’s the first time Pride has submitted a team, so it’s a chance to slip on some running shorts and really set the pace, raising money for Manchester Pride Community Fund at the same time. Enter the race here then create a Just Giving sponsorship page here and finally, join up with Team Pride here.

Idahot Discuss

If pounding the streets isn’t your thing, you can still turn out to give your support, cheering on the team at the start and finish lines to show the city that Manchester Pride is most definitely Loud and Proud.

There’s also a lively debate about the portrayal of lesbian, gay and transgender people in the media. This hot topic will be discussed at The Lowry, Media City:UK on Wednesday 14 May. The Panel includes former producer for Dr Who and Coronation Street; Phil Collinson and human rights activist; Peter Tatchell. The talk is free but donations are very welcome. If you’re up for some verbal jousting, you can register your attendance at the event here.

Last but by no means least, why not down a few cocktails in the name of Pride? Responsibly, of course. Across the city, mixologists are rinsing out their cocktail shakers and preparing to create a stupendous cocktail which sums up what Manchester Pride is all about.
