MANCHESTER CITY centre was given a blue rinse on Monday (12 May) as an estimated 100,000 Blues swamped the streets and the squares to celebrate Manchester City's double-winning 2013/14 season and catch a glimpse of the team.
"Everybody keeps saying that we've won the title in style. That's the best part of it. That's what we want to carry on doing. Winning with style."
A routine win against West Ham this weekend secured the club's second Premier League title in three years, battling through one of the most tightly-contended seasons in memory.
As a city, Manchester has now won the title seven times in eight seasons.
The 2013/14 title win secured manager Manuel Pellegrini's debut season as a double-winner, having earlier beat Sunderland at Wembley in March to claim the Capital One Cup.
On his appointment, Pellegrini had been told by City's board that he was expected to win 'five trophies in five years'. A robust start for the man fans now call the 'Charming Man'.
City take to Albert Square
From 4pm thousands of fans poured into Albert Square to watch live music, the season re-lived on big screens and see former City stars Shaun Goater, Paul Dickov and Mike Summerbee address the crowd. Former The Smith's drummer and through-and-through Blue Mike Joyce even took to the stage.
Just after 6pm the team and management strode out of Town Hall amongst pyrotechnics and an explosion of blue and white streamers as the gathered crowd burst into raptures.
Captain Vincent Kompany told the crowd: "Everybody keeps saying that we've won the title in style. That's the best part of it. That's what we want to carry on doing. Winning with style."
After the Albert Square presentation the open-top parade bus crawled its way through throngs of Blues along Peter Street, up Deansgate and on to Exchange Square, where thousands more waited for the Champions.
