Want design inspo with your flat white and 'Sexy Saturday Pie'? Then head to One Smithfield Square
Another week, another new Northern Quarter opening. Coffee lounge and lifestyle store Porter + Cole has opened up on the ground floor of the new One Smithfield Square apartment complex, promising locally-roasted artisan coffee, tipples, brunch and lunch alongside a globally curated selection of stylish homewares and gifts to browse and buy.
With stylish contemporary interiors - cue funky light fittings and ‘instagrammable’ greenery - and a tranquil soundtrack, Porter + Cole is the latest caff to capitalise on the trend for venues offering a dose of design inspo along with your flat white; joining similar premises like Fig + Sparrow and The Art of Hope.
Where is it?
You’ll find the minimalistic façade on High Street, opposite the Holiday Inn and Cat Café. Porter + Cole also allows dogs so your canine companion can stare at the kitties as you watch the world go by.
What can I eat?
The lifestyle store serves a range of comforting food bowls: handy for a little fill-me-up. Options include za’tar chicken (£7.50), slow-cooked marinated oyster chicken thighs, served with Lebanese pilaf rice; yellow vegetable Panang thai curry with fresh baby sweetcorn and sweet peppers, served with jasmine sticky rice (£7.50); super salad: freekah, bulgar, falafel and quinoa with an orange citrus pomegranate dressing (£7.50); French onion soup: twelve- hour soup made with Beaujolais and double cheese (£4.50); and Saturday Sexy Pie: a rainbow of seasonal vegetables, wrapped in Armenian filo pastry with a dressed salad (£4.50 - only available on Saturdays, of course).
They also offer a selection of cakes and entremets at the counters (£3-£4), alongside speciality chocolate for £8 and healthy breakfast pots for £4.50.

And to soak it up?
If you fancy a tipple, options include wine, spirits, beers and Prosecco. Oenophiles can choose from the likes of Sauvignon Blanc Zephyr to Pinot Noir Zephyr and Mont Rocher Malbec. For beer lovers, there’s Cloudwater - Manchester’s award-winning brewery specialising in modern batch brew - together with pale ale, IPA, smoked porter and a summer saison from Runaway. Soft thirst-quenchers include Luscombe juices and presses, tonics, fizzy drinks and, of course, coffee.
