SOMETIMES you just need to get away from your desk. When we all went to Panama Hatty's for lunch, we didn't want to go back to the office. It was so good, we could have stayed all afternoon.
The interior was moody and stylish with the arrangement of lots of little pictures and mirrors adding a quirky touch. It seemed like a real treat – a very decadent way to spend your lunch break.
Despite the glamorous surroundings, we weren't left penniless. The lunch deal at Panama Hatty's is great value at £13.95 for two courses.
We certainly didn't go hungry either. To say the portions were generous would be an understatement. Gargantuan is a more apt description. But as everything was so delicious (and we're all so greedy), there wasn't a crumb left on our plates.
The nachos were the best I'd ever had, absolutely laden with toppings. Across the table, Helen's salt and pepper chicken wings were also a huge portion but they were so full of flavour, she'd stab you with a fork if you so much as looked at them.
L'Oréal enjoyed her salmon pâté and Lara was waxing lyrical about her tomato and mozzarella salad. It certainly looked fresh and inviting.
The mains didn't disappoint either. My fajitas came on a sizzling hot plate – that noise always fill me with anticipation and makes my stomach growl. Helen's Thai fish cakes were packed full of fish rather than the usual disappointing 90% potato 10% ratio and the accompanying sweet potato fries were a big hit.
Both Lara and L'Oréal opted for the crispy shredded beef which got the spicing spot on and the fragrant rice was studded with kidney beans and seemed both wholesome and comforting.
The jambalaya is next on my hit list so we'll certainly be back and with these prices, we don't even have to wait until pay day.
