AFTER more than a year on the horizon, Japanese chain Shoryu Ramen is preparing to launch its first venue outside London in Manchester’s Piccadilly Gardens later this month.

Sake also features heavily at Shoryu

The 55-cover restaurant – which will feature an open kitchen, ‘mini dining pods’ and sake lined-walls – will serve up the group’s signature Hakata tonkotsu ramen, fluffy steamed Shoryu buns and ‘testunabe’ gyoza at One Piccadilly from Thursday 10 November.

Shoryu will be offering 50% off during its soft launch period until Sunday 20 November.

Other Japanese staples – such as tempura and sashimi – will also feature on the menu.

Shoryu founder, Tak Tokumine, said: “UK noodle culture has really become more sophisticated in recent years. As the British market has become more accustomed to noodles, we're able to introduce very specific dishes, such as Hakata tonkotsu ramen, for those looking for the real deal.

“I want to make sure everyone can experience real flavours, real dishes on their doorstep, so I am really pleased to be able to introduce authentic ramen to the people of Manchester next month.”

Sake also features heavily at Shoryu, with Tokumine's niece, Mimi Tokumine (one of Britain's few sake sommeliers), overseeing a menu that includes a large range of Japanese inspired cocktails made with sake, whisky and umeshu - Japanese plum liqueur.

Launched in 2012 by Tokumine – a native of Fukuoka (the birthplace of tonkoysu ramen) – Shoryu Ramen boasts five sites across London, plus Shoryu Go take-out bar.

Tokumine has also recently teamed up with the Michelin-starred Araki restaurant to open Sakagura in Mayfair.

The Manchester opening will see the group establish its first northern outpost, as they look to ramp up expansion plans with another site planned for Shoreditch later this year.
