¡VIVA La Revolucion!

The Spanish invasion continues...

The last six months have given the city Iberica, La Bandera and Street on First, while El Gato Negro will launch on King Street later in the year.

Well, Manchester has just made another major Spanish signing... and its another peach.

Liverpool's Lunya Catalonian Restaurant and Deli, winner of the Good Food Guide's 'Readers' Restaurant of the Year for the North West 2015', have revealed on twitter the location of their new Manchester branch - Deansgate's Barton Arcade.

Lunya will occupy both the former Each To Their Own clothes store and the former Spirited Wine store, both fronting onto Deansgate.

Confidential understands there'll be a bar, deli and casual dining on the ground floor and in the arcade, while the full-service restaurant will occupy four units on the first floor - including the former-camera store - with dining out on the indoor balconies. The first floor space will be twice the size of the ground floor.

This is great news for Manchester and the Grade II-listed Barton Arcade (built in 1871 by Corbett, Raby, Sawyer), which has recently stripped-back it's Deansgate frontage to reveal all the original shopfronts, with a refurb of the Victorian shopping arcade's interior next on the agenda.

.Lunya Liverpool

And take it from us, Lunya is good, seriously good.

Owner and Executive Chef, Peter Kinsella, is a Hispanophile, a perfectionist and an anorak with nearly 50 suppliers in Catalonia, each one of which he visits every two months to source the very best gear. He's also a bloody nice bloke.

"We spent three years determined to have only one restaurant in Liverpool," Kinsella tells us. "We were really adamant about that.

"But having now got Lunya Liverpool to exactly where we want it, and having such a huge customer base travelling over from Manchester, this move just made sense.

"And this building, it's just fantastic," he continued. "Having covered outdoor seating on the ground and first floor is such an amazing attribute."

The planning application is in, and should everything be hunky dory building work should begin in mid-August, with the launch pencilled in for early-October.

Pull your socks up folks, this is a serious contender.
