HEATON PARK has introduced two new cafes to its six hundred acre site.

"Our main aim is to serve great food, provide a warm welcome, whilst we also help over 60 disadvantaged young people into training and employment over the next 3 years."

The Stables café opened at the park’s farm centre on Friday June 27, while the Pavilion Café, situated on the park boating lake, will open later this summer.

Both cafes are to serve meals and drink produced in the North West and help unemployed and disadvantaged young people into work.

The EAT (Employment and Training) Pennine team behind the new establishments are set to employ over 60 unemployed young people within the park over the next three years.

Councillor Rosa Battle, Manchester City Council’s executive member for culture and leisure, said: “These cafes will provide the thousands of visitors to Heaton Park with delicious locally sourced food and drink, and for many people they will be yet another reason to come to the park.

Glen Duckett, Director of EAT Pennine said:

"This is such a great opportunity for a social enterprise to be involved in helping to bring a new food concept to Heaton Park. We're investing in the refurbishment of the Stables and Pavilion with the support of Key Fund and Unltd's 'Big Venture Challenge' programme, which along with our own investment is supporting the regeneration of the park's catering facilities.

The Stables, open from 11am until dusk, includes a deli shop which boasts honey made on the park itself.

The café will offer beer from Ramsbottom-based Irwell Works brewery, a selection of cocktails, Rossendale-based Fitzpatrick’s non-alcoholic cordials and ‘mocktails’, coffee from Clitheroe-based Exchange Coffee, and ice cream made by Longridge in Preston.

The Pavilion Cafe, next to the park’s boating lake, will sell ice cream sundaes, coffees and milkshakes.
