IN A move to save money whilst utilising the resources at MediaCityUK, the BBC are to move 120 Future Media roles and 102 Technology roles to Salford.
It's all good news for the region as Greater Manchester becomes one of the key broadcasting players not only in Britain but internationally.
The BBC wish to spend less on London buildings so they can invest more Licence Fee money in programmes. The BBC also wish to continue getting 'closer to audiences' by growing its presence in the regions.
The corporation sees the new jobs going to MediaCityUK as cementing the latter's role as the 'key digital hub for the UK'.
It's all good news for the region as Greater Manchester becomes one of the key broadcasting players not only in Britain but internationally.
It makes sense for the BBC as well because, according to the corporation, the cost of the move will be offset easily by the savings made in moving out of the over-heated London property market.
Other staff in the BBC will move to Birmingham which becomes home of the Academy and Human Resources plus host to some BBC Workplace and Safety staff. In London staff will be moved and relocated to ensure the best use of the properties the BBC retain.
