AS THE SUN sets on Heaton Park on 18 April, joggers, power-walkers and crawling-to-the-finish-ers from across Manchester will take part in a brand new 5 km run before being rewarded with a late-night music festival.

Coronation Street actress Brooke Vincent is set to run amongst the Moon Rise Run participants.

The Moon Rise Run will transform the 5K course into an 'enchanting passage across the park', illuminated with twinkling festoon lighting and by the LED Moonbeam wristbands given to each runner.

The neon procession will cross the finish line and celebrate at the post-race festival with live music and some much needed refuelling. Think glowing, lantern-lit trees, live music and DJs, market food and a bar.

The musical line-up will include Norweigan-rooted indie band Firewood Island, Manchester pop and soul-singer Lily Jo (who has provided vocals for Damon Albarn, Nenah Cherry, De La Soul, Roots Manuva, and Shaun Ryder), folk singer Joseph Lofthouse, and the Happy Mondays' Rowetta.

Coronation Street actress Brooke Vincent is set to run amongst the Moon Rise Run participants and has pledged support for her nominated charity – The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.  Brooke took the opportunity to invite 12-year-old leukemia patient Charlotte Jennings, who was diagnosed with a very rare form of Acute Myeloid Leukemia in January 2014. Jennings is undergoing specialist treatment called ‘extracorporeal photopheresis’ which involves filtering her blood through high intensity UV light. Following her sessions she must cover up and wear sunglasses.

Vincent said: "The Moon Rise Run is a brilliant way for me to raise funds for the hospital. What the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital do, every day of the year, is absolutely amazing, and the charity is very close to my heart.  When I heard about the opportunity to run under the moonlight, enjoy a festival and raise money to support them I was ‘in’ straight away. My friends and I can’t wait. Meeting patients like Charlotte really brings home why I support this charity. She is such a positive and inspiring young woman and I hope to see her at the run in April.”

Although participants don’t have to fundraise to participate in this event, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity are an official local charity to the event. This means that participants can easily opt-in to raise funds for the organisation via their run.

The ticket price (£32.00 for general runner) gains each runner entry into the race, limited edition Moon Rise Run T-shirt, LED Moonbeam wristband, race number and entry into the post-race festival. Festival-only tickets (£18.00) are also available to allow supporters the opportunity to revel in the festival celebrations after cheering on their friends and family.

Moon Rise Run is an inclusive event for all abilities.

The race will start at 7.45pm with entry from 5.30pm, and warm up at 7.15pm. The post-race festival will end at 11pm. Tickets for single entry, groups, and festival-only are on sale now.
