Alternative education provider expands into Wythenshawe to support children missing from education

In response to a growing number of young people across South Manchester using their alternative education service, Navigators has opened a new community learning centre and activity hub in Wythenshawe to support young people who are missing from mainstream education.

Aiming to provide a stable learning environment for hard-to-reach young people, Navigators' expansion strengthens their position as a leading provider of specialist education in Greater Manchester, offering a mentoring-based approach that bridges the social, emotional and mental health support gap that can affect students in traditional education settings.

The centre, officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Paul Andrews, on 5 March, will offer personalised learning pathways and a bespoke curriculum to school-age children, alongside post-16 college programmes and courses.

In Manchester alone in the Autumn term of 24/25 there were 440 children missing from education (CME).

Within a recent Ofsted inspection the average attendance for Navigators students was 97%  demonstrating how effective this approach has been with the cohort who were previously missing from education (regularly with 0% attendance).

With investment in resources, like the Learning Hub in Wythenshawe, Navigators will be able to work with more young people and continue to be an integral part of the solution in bringing down the CME figure ensuring that every child in Greater Manchester receives an education.

Anthony Thompson, founder and CEO of Navigators said: “We want to support as many young people as possible across Greater Manchester with high quality education resources in their local community. We have an increasing number of students from the Wythenshawe area who are using Navigators, and we are delivering transformative outcomes for them.”

The Lord Mayor added: "I am delighted to be opening the new Navigators community hub. It will play a really important role in ensuring that young people across the area have access to an education programme that meets their individual needs and allows them to thrive."

Navigators’ Wythenshawe Hub is located at 4 Ledson Rd, Wythenshawe, Manchester M23 9GP
