Award-winning restaurant hails ‘new era’ after bagging top chef Steven Smith
MUSU has announced it is entering ‘a new era’ with the introduction of The MUSU Collection, three distinct restaurants within the Bridge Street building.
The team behind the award-winning restaurant is constructing a new facility in the lower ground floor to open in spring/summer of next year.
The new space will house MUSU Miyabi, led by new Chef Patron Steven Smith, formerly of the lauded Freemasons at Wiswell, along with MUSU Theatre of Omakase headed up by Executive Sushi Chef Andre Aguiar.
First to launch will be KAJI, described as “fire based dining”, which is set to open this October.
A spokesperson for MUSU said: “KAJI will bring a vibrant social dining experience that combines advanced grilling techniques with bold, approachable flavours. Designed to capture the essence of informal, elevated dining, KAJI will set the stage for the Collection’s future. Full details on the KAJI concept will be announced soon, but we are very excited about what’s to come.”
The spokesperson went on to say: “We would also like to express our gratitude to Michael Shaw, who has helmed MUSU and helped build the foundation that brought us to this exciting moment. We appreciate his contributions and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
Incoming Chef Patron Steven Smith said: “I’m honoured to join the MUSU Collection and excited to be part of a team that shares my commitment to excellence. From the moment I met the team, I was impressed by their ambition and drive. I’ve been looking for an opportunity that aligns with my passion for pushing boundaries, and MUSU’s vision is exactly that. I’m excited to work alongside Andre and the team to deliver something truly special for Manchester.”
Guests can sign up for exclusive access to reservations once they released by visiting the KAJI website.
