The restaurant in Manchester’s iconic hotel is getting an upgrade

The restaurant formerly known as Mr Cooper’s House and Garden at The Midland Hotel is to relaunch this April with a brand new name, a different look and a revamped menu.

Mount Street Dining Room & Bar (named after the street by which customers can access the restaurant) is to become a modern British Dining Room, which brings together Northern hospitality and contemporary design. Great local ingredients have inspired the menu and dishes such as Bury Black Pudding with roast Tatton Park apples, beef Wellington pie, Chateaubriand and Surf and Turf promise to provide a modern take on British classics, or ‘elevated home dining’ in opulent surroundings.

The beer menu will feature a largely northern contingent

Mr Coopers closed on Sunday 12th January and new operators, Leonardo Hotels UK and Ireland, are changing things around as part of a £14m general refurbishment of the hotel.

Guests will be welcome to pop in to Mount Street for all occasions from a small snack, to a family celebration over a three-course dinner, a business lunch or some cocktails and a bite to eat with friends. The hotel restaurant will open seven days a week from early morning to late evening, and is planning to become especially well known for serving a cracking roast dinner on weekends, which will include a whole roast Piper’s Farm chicken or a whole roast pork belly.

Mount Street’s menu has been created by The Midland’s Executive Head Chef Brian Spark who combines classic cooking techniques with well-sourced produce from around the North West and Yorkshire. Once the restaurant opens, Rebecca Richardson will continue as head chef.

Both the in-house Bailey’s smoker and in-house butchery remain integral to the menu, with smoking, charring, compressing and acid cooking methods used to maximise flavour and texture.

To accommodate all day dining, the menu will be split into seven sections; snacks, starters, mains and grills, pies, sides and desserts. In addition to the a la carte menu, there will be a number of set menus, including a lunch menu and an early evening menu. All will include a selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes.

Mount Street’s wine list will have a strong focus on English producers, while the beer menu will feature a largely northern contingent, with the likes of Cloudwater Brewery, Alphabet Brewing Company and Track all included. The cocktail menu is split into four sections; Today’s Classics, Craft Shandies, Punch and What We’re Mixing.

Jason Carruthers, Managing Director of Jurys Inn and Leonardo Hotels UK and Ireland, said: “We’re really looking forward to unveiling Mount Street Dining Room and Bar and think it’s going to be a great addition to the city. The North is famous for its hospitality and that will be key at Mount Street.

“While Mr Cooper’s was more of a dinner-orientated destination, we believe Mount Street has all day appeal and we’re excited to be embarking on this new chapter at the hotel.”
