If your love of good steak has resulted in you having a discerning palate, CAU restaurants can’t have escaped your notice. This newish high street restaurant group, which has the same backers as the award winning Gaucho Argentinian collection of restaurants, has outposts in suburbs all over the UK including Wilmslow, Media City and West Didsbury.

On Wednesdays, CAU restaurants have a special offer which really can’t be missed; Mid-Week Meat Up.

This premium casual market brand specialises high quality grass-fed Aberdeen Angus beef raised on the Pampas, but also offers small and big plates, burgers, salads and drinks based on the eclectic style of Buenos Aires. The menu focuses on well sourced quality produce, freshly made every day and delivered with great hospitality and in the stylish surroundings of their cool, modern monochromatic-themed restaurants.

Steak-wise, diners can choose from a range of classic or speciality cuts such as Lomito, Asado de Chorizo (a marinated smokey sirloin), or Tira de Ancho (a spiral cut rib eye) but on Wednesdays, CAU restaurants have a special offer which really can’t be missed; Mid-Week Meat Up.

To help get you through the week, every Wednesday, for only £20 per person, each diner will be served Ancho medallions marinated in their special new green chimichurri, served with thin chips, a green chopped salad and a glass of Malbec.

CAU are rightly proud of their collection of Malbec. As their menu states, “there are nice reds, there are very nice reds and then there’s Malbec.” Their wine list is their chance to show off some of their favourites and a glass of the 2013 San Juan from Argentina; ripe, rich and earthy with a touch of sweet spice, is the one they’ve hand-picked to go with the steak for The Mid-Week Meat Up.

Wednesday’s Meat-Up speciality steak is Ancho Medallions, a full 260g butterflied steak grilled slowly for maximum tenderness, but not before it’s had a long soak in a handmade chimichurri marinade. They recommend it cooked medium. Chimichurri is a traditional Argentinian sauce made from finely-chopped parsley, garlic, vegetable oil, oregano and white wine vinegar which adds a subtle depth of flavour to grilled meat. The steak is also served with a little jug of rich red wine jus to enhance the meaty flavours.

With that, you get a generous portion of crisp golden thin-cut fries and a delicious green salad of dressed mixed leaves, courgette ribbons and fresh crunchy greens.

So whether you’re a CAU regular or have been looking for an excuse to visit, we recommend The Mid-Week Meat up with Malbec for only £20, every Wednesday.
