Smudge’s Week

After twisting my ankle on my bigger run last Sunday, I awoke on Monday morning to find the magic bag of frozen hadn’t worked as an official healing. So due to a slightly bruised ankle, going for a run on Monday and Tuesday was out of the question.

However, after the bruising had reduced considerably by Wednesday, I went for a fifteen mile walk to ease myself back into the swing of things before going for a jog the rest of the week.

The luck of the week was summed up by Thursday’s run. It was warm and sunny for the majority of the day, but as soon as I went out and went far enough around my route that I couldn’t turn back, it started hail stoning.

To make things even better the route I had planned out included a couple of streets shut for road works. My quiet run down country lanes started to resemble a Bear Grylls show as I tried to avoid the hail stone whilst running through massive muddy puddles.

By the end of the week, I felt great and my ankle appears fine now too. I’m also looking forward to trying a couple of new running routes next week if anyone can recommend any?

Rakhi’s Week

Socialising and sickness do not a marathon runner make.

Last week, training slipped by the wayside as I caught up with some mates who had come from out of town, and then caught a cold.

My fitness levels dropped and even though I tried to ignore my illness and plough on with swimming, running and a spot of Ryan Giggs yoga, all my body wanted to do was rest.

Not even Giggs’ charisma could inspire me to snap out of my weariness, so by Wednesday I gave in and decided to forget about marathon training for the remainder of the week. I’ll be honest, it was nice to have an excuse to rest.

I’m feeling a bit better now though so will have to crack on and work twice as hard to get back into shape. According to the plan, this week I should be doing a couple of six to eight mile runs, and another 18 mile test of endurance at the weekend, which I’m dreading.

Roll on April 29 when this thing will all be over.
