AHEAD of the upcoming St Patrick's Day celebrations, the annual Manchester Irish Festival is set to paint the city green with a full weekend of events, workshops and the city centre parade.

The festival culminates on Sunday with the much anticipated parade, which is to also celebrate its 26th anniversary

This year marks the festival's 21st year in Manchester and will be celebrated with the return of the Irish markets and the O' Briens festival hub on Albert Square for 'music, singing, dance, drinks and plenty of craic’ until Sunday 13 March.

The weekend's events will begin with the launch at Manchester Town Hall on Friday 11 March at 7pm, while Irish watering holes and local community groups, such as Waxy O Connors, O'Sheas and the Irish World Heritage Centre, will be participating with events until 19 March.

The festival culminates on Sunday with the much anticipated parade, which will celebrate its 26th anniversary with the first Irish Festival Parade marched in 1990 led by The Irish World Heritage Centre.

'Myths and Legends' is the theme of this year's procession and will begin at the Irish World Heritage Centre from 11:30am, continuing on from Irish Town Way in Cheetham Hill and will end in the city centre at 1pm in Albert Square.

Also, keep an eye out for post parade parties across the city; Celtic Blues Rackhouse Plifer will headline a special Post Parade Party at the Chorlton Irish Club, while parties will also be thrown at St Kent's Irish Club in Fallowfield, the Union in Levenshulme, following the live screening of the Manchester United Game and O'Sheas in the city centre.
