Panama Hatty's and Featherblade to host a one-day 'Eat Free - Donate Well' event on Friday 9 June
On Friday 9 June, for one day only, Panama Hatty's and their basement restaurant, Featherblade Steak on Brown Street, will host an 'Eat Free – Donate Well' event.
No reservations will be taken, but instead both restaurants will throw their doors open from noon to offer their customers free food in exchange for cash donations towards the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund - set up in the wake of the terror attack on Manchester Arena.
They have suggested a minimum donation of £5, but would obviously appreciate anything above that amount, as every penny donated on the day will go to the fund.
Lee Brennan and Rose Chamberlain - co-owners of Panama Hatty’s, which also has branches in Tarporley and Prestwich - came up with the plan after wondering what might be the best way to help the victims and families of the recent bomb attack.
Lee said: "We felt struck by all the acts of kindness and generosity of strangers across the globe and, being in the heart of Manchester, we felt we needed to do something.
"Panama Hatty's has been supported by the people of Manchester since we opened our doors in 2005. When someone came up with the idea that we could offer food from our restaurants in exchange for cash donations to the Manchester Relief Fund we thought it was a spectacular idea".
Last year, the couple converted the basement of the city centre restaurant into Featherblade, a ‘pop-up’ steak restaurant with a set menu of steak, chips and salad for a tenner. Though the not entirely original concept (see here) has been popular enough to make it permanent.
During the event, the restaurant will also be hosting a silent auction and are appealing to other local businesses to donate prizes. They have also asked if any local DJs might be available to play music throughout the evening. The all day buffet will feature many of the dishes on Panama Hatty's and Featherblade's menu including chicken wings, steak, ribs and nachos (drinks will be charged at regular prices).
