MANCHESTER CITY football club have announced plans to take the capacity of the Etihad Stadium from 47,670 to 62,170 in two phases.

The stadium expansion comes quickly after the construction of the the club’s new £200million training complex and academy which is set to open this summer.

The South Stand will be the first to be developed taking the capacity to 54,000 by August 2015. When the South Stand is complete, work on the North Stand will get underway.

The competition of the South Stand will be heralded by the introduction of a new £299 season ticket.

Work is set to begin immediately with international construction group Laing O’Rourke winning the contract. The contract is estimated to be in the region of £10m. O’Rourke were also involved in the initial construction of City Stadium for the 2002 Commonwealth Games.
