NORTHERN Quarter bar restaurant, Luck Lust Liquor & Burn, have been targeted in what's being described as an 'Ocean's Eleven' job.
A gang of thieves broke into the popular beer and burrito venue on High Street in the early hours of Thursday 16 April and removed a safe weighing around a tonne.
...some nasty, mean Ocean's Eleven rejects have robbed our safe and CCTV
A spokesperson for Luck Lust Liquor & Burn - ran by the Beautiful Drinks group (Almost Famous, Home Sweet Home, Keko Moku) - said nobody was hurt but that the robbery looked like a 'pro job', as the thieves gained access to the basement office, used grinders to remove the safe and disabled the venue's CCTV.
Marie Carter, Director of Beautiful Drinks, said:
"Sorry lovely, hungry, burrito-loving people of Manchester, we've had to close today as some nasty, mean Ocean's Eleven rejects have robbed our safe and CCTV.
"Let's hope they don't cut their hands off trying to get the bugger open and get hot sauce in the wound.
"Burrito heaven will be back open tomorrow lunchtime, maybe even with a SafeCracker special on the menu."
A police spokesperson said: "The police received a call at 9.25am this morning regarding a burglary in Northern Quarter. The burglary took place sometime after 2am with the thieves entering through the main door.
"Unfortunately the venue was trashed and a safe containing a large sum of cash was stolen. A chemical substance was used during the robbery. The fire service attended to deal with the substance."
The investigation continues.
This isn't the first stroke of bad luck for the venue, which had to be evacuated in June 2013 following a kitchen fire that tore through the building - read here.
