holding a concert of chamber music in the Engine House on Wednesday 16 May. Pianist Anthony Hewitt will be joining Manchester Camarata’s principal players in this concert of two of the giants of Romantic music. The concert will begin at 8pm.

Conference: Fifty Years Of A Clockwork Orange
The International Anthony Burgess Foundation is organising a multi-disciplinary conference to examine its enduring impact on literature, film, music theatre and society from Thursday 28 June to Saturday 30 June. The event marks the fiftieth anniversary of Anthony Burgess’s A Clockwork Orange (1962) and will be supported by the UK premiere of Burgess’s Clockwork Orange music and a film season at the Cornerhouse Cinema. Key speakers include Peter Kramer, author of the most recent book about A Clockwork Orange and Jonathon Green,
editor of Chambers Slang Dictionary.

Budding journalists are being given the chance to win £2000 for a piece on brand new work in the arts
To commemorate Burgess’s long association with the Observer, The Anthony Burgess Foundation has set up the Observer/Anthony Burgess Prize. The purpose of the prize is to find the best writing on brand new work in theatres which has not been previously published. The winning work may take the form of an interview or profile of a writer, musician, a piece on a new artistic movement, or a review of a concert or theatre play and will be judged by a panel including William Boyd, Scarlett Thomas and Kamille Shamsie.
