CRAFT BEER fanatics can start the long salivatory countdown to the third Independent Manchester Beer Convention (IMBC), known familiarly as Indy Man Beer Con and hosted once more in the iconic Victoria Baths.

“The beer world is a dynamic industry, more women and young people are drinking beer and it’s losing it’s stuffy, old man image, yet something was lacking in Britain’s beer festivals so we thought we’d change that.”

This Grade II listed, architectural gem adds to the glory of the occasion, described in the release somewhat breathlessly as bringing together 'the most progressive, forward thinking breweries from across the UK, Europe and USA for a multi-sensory, headlong, hop-forward beer extravaganza.' Phew.

IMBC will run from Thursday 9 October to Sunday 12 October. Tickets go on sale at 9am on Tuesday 1 April (starting at £10 here), but definitely don’t dawdle. Last year’s event sold out months in advance, welcoming over 3,000 attendees who mingled with 47 brewers serving a bewildering range of innovative beers and encouraging much ale bonding.

Promised are secret tastings, pop-up beer talks plus one-off beers made especially for the Convention. There will be beer-matched meals from Masterchef finalist Jackie Kearney aka The Hungry Gecko, specially curated live music and a plethora of the best street food traders.

The festival is once again organised by the team behind Common bar, Port Street Beer House and The Beagle. Head honcho Jonny Heyes said: “The beer world is a dynamic industry, more women and young people are drinking beer and it’s losing it’s stuffy, old man image, yet something was lacking in Britain’s beer festivals so we thought we’d change that.”
