A COALITION of homelessness charities based in Manchester have organised a charity night out to help further fund their work to improve the lives of the homeless in the city.

The event, Change, will take place on Thursday 25 February and will see musicians such as Zed Bias and North Base descend on new small music venue The Live Room on Grosvenor Street.

The money will be going towards training programmes for the homeless and clothing for job interviews...

Bloc2Bloc Radio and the Big Change Campaign have worked together to organise the event, with money from Change going to help the homeless with long-term solutions. The money will not be going towards food banks or collecting food. Instead, the money will be going towards training programmes for the homeless and clothing for job interviews, amongst other things.

Mikey Thompson of the Community Awareness Network, a group of charities with the united aim of ending homeless and instigators of the Big Change Campaign, said:

“This is a huge step in the right direction and it’s great to be working with so many great charities and grass root organisations on such a large scale. It’s great to see that not only have so many members of the public chosen to support the fund, but Manchester’s business and entertainment industry and young people understand the importance of this scheme as well. Homelessness is a huge problem and we need a huge partnership to help tackle the issue, including support from Manchester’s young people and the night-time economy.”

Due to the large amount of charities and services that the Community Awareness Network work with, beneficiaries of the Big Change campaign always receive the support that they need once they have been rehoused. As far as the charities are aware, nothing of this sort has been done before, and they are hoping that it is the start of a larger fundraising campaign to help tackle the problem of homelessness within the city of Manchester.
