Get your fill of meat-free, fish-free, dairy-free dishes
CHOOSING vegan doesn’t always mean choosing convenience, but that’s not the case at Vapiano, where non-meat non-dairy dishes get equal footing on the menu. Hurrah! A few of us in the office have gone flexi, veggie and full-on vegan, so we booked a table pronto and popped in to put the pasta to the test.
The chefs at Vapiano make all 11 of their types of fresh pasta from scratch in the restaurant kitchens every day using just two carefully selected ingredients – water and durum wheat semolina, with two spelt alternatives also available. All their pasta is egg free, so suitable for vegans, and there is a variety of vegan-friendly sauces to choose from.
The Vapiano chefs will cook your meal exactly as you like it, right in front of you, so you can also request if you would like an ingredient taking out to fit your dietary requirements – easy peasy.
Needing no special tweaks for our vegan preferences, however, were three pasta dishes – the simple garlic, chilli, parsley and olive oil Aglio e Olio; the classic Arrabiata, with homemade tomato sauce, garlic, onions and chilli, and the Funghi Bolognese. This latter coats your choice of pasta with a rich ragout made of mushrooms, carrots and celery in a homemade tomato sauce with onions marinated in soy sauce and fresh herbs. It’s pretty damn good.
