THE Royal Voluntary Service joined up with Gala Bingo to break a Guinness World Record and raise money for the elderly last Christmas. Gala held their annual VIP festive ball in London on 6 December and a host of reality TV stars helped break the record for the largest ever bingo card.
Working his way round the 5 metre by 2 metre bingo cards, James Jordan ticked off the numbers as they were drawn out and helped Gala into the record books
The event, hosted by Charlie King from The Only Way Is Essex, helped raise a massive £6041 for the charity. Celebrity Big Brother and Strictly Come Dancing star James Jordan was also in attendance, waltzing around the playing card whilst smashing the record.
For senior citizens, the festive period can be a lonely time of year. The partnership between the RVS and Gala Bingo has been set up to help encourage the elderly members of society to get involved with the events the charity are putting on and raise awareness of how loneliness affects many of the older generation.
When ask about the partnership, GalaBingo.com’s Brand Director Alison Digges said:
“We wanted to do something special for Christmas and another Guinness World Record attempt seemed like a good way to get everyone’s attention.
“So we organised our VIP party, invited some of our favourite celebrities and raised money for an important cause like Royal Voluntary Service, all at the same time!”
To bring the feel-good party atmosphere to Gala’s Ball, reality TV stars such as Leah Wright and George Harrison from The Only Way Is Essex, Geordie Shore’s Ricci Guarnaccio and Celebrity Big Brother contestant Casey Batchelor were all on hand.
With an official Guinness Book of Records adjudicator in attendance, it was over to James Jordan to take to the stage and break the record. Working his way round the 5 metre by 2 metre bingo cards, James Jordan ticked off the numbers as they were drawn out and helped Gala into the record books.
Gala Bingo are not strangers to breaking a world record for a good cause, after playing a game of bingo with the biggest ever balls early last year. With the help of Coronation Street, Gala raised awareness and a whopping £10,000 for the Male Cancer Awareness Campaign.
