WHETHER you are packing your mud stained and peg-less tent from the last festival, or excitedly heading to Cumbria for your first festival of the summer, one thing's for sure: you may not be able to trust the weather this weekend, but you can sure trust the people and the music.

Here are five acts not to missed this weekend...

Blossoms

Kendal Calling is a lot closer to home for Blossoms than some of their recent shows. The Stockport five-piece have been playing big venues all summer and arrive at Kendal Calling fresh from playing sold out gigs alongside Jake Bugg in Australia. Whether you've flown in from Melbourne or not, Blossoms are the band to see on the Calling Out stage on Friday night.

Though don’t just take our word for it, Blossoms have been given the nod of approval by Johnny Marr & Ian Brown, whilst also being the only guitar band (and one of only two acts from north of Oxford) to make it onto the BBC Sound of 2016 shortlist.

Whatever you decide, kick Friday off the right way.

In short: Future headliners

Rat Boy

When your mates say you look like a rat, why not embrace it and make it your stage name? Jordan Cardy, aka Rat Boy, has been gathering a loyal fan base as passionate as Beliebers but with grubbier trainers, more piercings and a disregard for perma-tans and selfies.

Rat Boy plays the Calling Out stage on Friday night just before Blossoms, and it can be guaranteed that he will get the crowd going with his combination of addictive, story-ridden, up-beat, self-recorded tunes.

In short: DIY punk pop

The Hives

If your energy levels are beginning to drop after a couple of days of festival revelry, then allow one of the most energetic live bands in recent memory become your legal high. The Swedish rockers show no signs of slowing down, and neither should you.

In short: Hate to say I told you so...

The Crookes

Seeing The Crookes on the bill this year was a pleasant surprise. The Sheffield band have somehow managed to maintain a certain level of obscurity despite releasing new music every year since they formed 2008. A couple of members have been replaced since the early days, but here's hoping Backstreet Lovers still sounds as good six years on.

In short: Could steal your affections

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds

Has Kendal Calling ever had a better send off? Whilst Manchester's been abuzz with Stone Roses all summer, Noel Gallagher isn't the type to remain quiet. He'll do the talking with guitar in hand, sing-a-longs new & old and no doubt a strong dose of quick northern wit.

In short: Worth the ticket price alone.

Also worth a watch: Madness, Everything Everything, Catfish and the Bottlemen and yes of course Craig David.

Just realised you are free 29-31 July? Today is your lucky day. The last few tickets can be snapped up here.
