Head to Chorlton for live music and laid-back vibes
MUSIC is a hit at Chorlton’s Dulcimer, which has now been going strong for ten whole years. With a motto of ‘fine ales and finer folk’, we’d probably suggest adding ‘and the finest tunes’, as live performances from singers and bands is definitely Dulcimer’s bag.
From country and folk to reggae and rock, there’s something for everyone on offer at Dulcimer, with plenty of free music night and a varied roster of DJs.
Blues is popular, with now-regular appearances from skilled slide guitarist and acclaimed songwriter Sam Jefferson, following a brilliant debut set before Christmas. He plays in the bar on the second Wednesday of every month, and he’s also playing a special gig on Wednesday 24 January to showcase his talents to the weekend crowd.
Drawing inspiration from legends such as Blind Lemon Jefferson, Eric Clapton and Ry Cooder, Sam gained a reputation as a talented performer on the blues and folk music scenes in Brighton, where he lived until recently. Brighton Unsigned described him as a ‘promising young artist’ with ‘musical gems’ on his 2015 album.
Sam has taken his unique brand of blues and folk to audiences both in the UK and abroad, and since moving to Manchester last September, Sam has played all kinds of venues, from the Northern Quarter to the RNCM, where he opened for Ralph McTell of Streets Of London fame. Ralph said: ‘It was a pleasure to work with a young musician of such maturity, humility and ability.’
