Following the opening of their new dessert bar in July, Manchester’s MilkJam trio will be bringing more sweet, sweet sorcery to the table as the latest hosts to be announced in Manchester Food and Drink Festival’s ‘Hidden Banquet’ series.
Guests are even encouraged to come dressed as their favourite Granada TV character
Themed around ‘the most iconic aspects of Manchester’s heritage and identity,’ each Hidden Banquet event - programmed in partnership with developer Allied London - promises to pair-up some of our finest culinary talent with some of the city's most seldom seen spots for a 'totally unique' experience.
MilkJam’s six-course spread is the third to be revealed, following Aiden Byrne’s 200-person 'Innovation' banquet at London Road Fire Station, and Dan Doherty’s 175-person 'Industry' event at the Bonded Warehouse in Old Granada Studios.
This time the theme is ‘TV’, with its primary focus the ground-breaking television produced by Granada Studios since its first broadcast in 1956. Catering for 75 sweet-toothed diners, the event will be held in the studios themselves - now the site of Allied London’s proposed St. John’s scheme.
The MilkJam ladies - Claire ‘Ginger’s Comfort Emporium’ Kelsey, Charlotte ‘BakeOrama’ O’Toole and Nicki ‘Lush Brownies’ Griffiths - are no strangers to serving up extravagant feasts. The ‘party zone’ basement of their new Oxford Street dessert bar has been given over to serving up experimental six-course banquets, much like the one envisaged for ‘TV’. Although, thanks to the creative approach of the pudding Frankensteins, the dinner is said to cater for ‘any fully rounded palate’.
OGS Works, a co-working space that was once home to the site of Granada Canteen, will provide a fitting location. Festival-goers can dine where old Corrie stars and other famous faces once dined, with the area transformed for the evening to create the perfect ‘TV Dinner’. Guests are even encouraged to come dressed as their favourite Granada TV character for the chance to win a prize.
A donation from ticket proceeds will be made to Forever Manchester, The Community Foundation for Greater Manchester. There are 75 tickets for the banquet, priced at £55 including cocktails.
