BURSTING onto Bridge Street in late 2014, Crazy Pedro’s fast cemented itself as a Manchester institution; known for its mezcal madness, off-the-wall decor and being so laid back it’s almost horizontal. Unsurprisingly, ‘Pedro’ became so popular he’s recently opened another branch up in the Northern Quarter, where you can enjoy all the all the usual randomness from 4pm to 4am daily.
It actually tastes pretty damn good - particularly washed down with a cocktail or two
Arguably the ‘part time pizza parlour’s main claim to fame, however, is...well, pizza. This is not just any pizza, this is Crazy Pedro’s pizza: and that means the more bonkers the better. Previous flavours have included ‘Back to School’ (turkey dinosaurs, potato smiles and spaghetti hoops), ‘Dreggs’ (sausage rolls, baked beans and brown sauce) and ‘The Dirty Northerner’ (cheese, chips and gravy).
That’s not to mention ‘Curry Mile’ (chicken tikka, onion bhajis, poppadoms, mint yoghurt), ‘I Am The ResurrEGGtion’ (chocolate sauce, marshmallows, brownie, meringue and Cadbury’s creme egg) and even Olympian portraits.
Undoubtedly, its Christmas special is up there with the quirkiest. With cheddar cheese, fig, pear, pigs in blankets, cranberry, balsamic glaze and - wait for it - Christmas cake, this is one fruitcake of a pizza. And guess what? It actually tastes pretty damn good - particularly washed down with a cocktail or two. It’s available throughout December.
That’s not the only surprise Crazy Pedro’s has pulled from its roomy sleeve of late, revealing a series of four five-foot high mosaics at its Northern Quarter Short Street branch. Based on the ‘full time party bar’s mask-wearing mascot, the Mexican wrestlers were designed by artists Mary Goodwin and Mark Kennedy, using the venue’s distinctive bright colours.
