The brand is taking over one of Northern Quarter’s Grade II-listed buildings
The Head of Steam has announced that it will be opening a brand new Manchester city centre site later this year.
Taking over the former Cottonopolis and Lamb of Tartary site at 16 Newton Street (less than 10 minutes away from Piccadilly Station), the new venue will mark The Head of Steam’s 16th location nationwide.
Established in 1995, The Head of Steam is part of Camerons Brewery, one of the UK’s largest family-owned independent breweries, and is known for its inclusive, innovative approach to craft beer. The brand has already built a loyal following across its 15 venues in 13 cities, from Newcastle to Cardiff, including its popular Didsbury location, which has been a firm local favourite since opening in 2018.
The 2,800 sq ft venue has capacity for up to 180 guests (120 seated) and will be designed to showcase the brand’s trademark mix of industrial character. A striking circular central bar will take centre stage, surrounded by exposed brickwork and restored original features - a nod to Manchester’s proud industrial past and creative spirit.
The bar will showcase a diverse range of beers and feature 30 lines, serving 24 keg and 6 cask brews. Expertly selected beers from the UK craft scene will complement a vast collection of Belgian beers synonymous with The Head Of Steam Brand, alongside a rotating selection of cans and bottles. Completing the offering will be a fresh cocktail menu and quality spirits range that’s every bit as considered.
Visitors can also take advantage of augmented reality darts, live sports across six screens and a dedicated pop-up kitchen from a local operator.
Mark Connor, Head of Operations & Brand for The Head of Steam, said: “We’re excited to be joining the Northern Quarter community and to bring our favourite UK brewers, alongside classics from our extensive Belgian range, to this vibrant part of the city. The location is incredible, and being able to offer something new and exciting to the area is fantastic for us. We can’t wait to open our doors later this year, meet our neighbours, and become a part of this iconic area of Manchester.”
