NEXT Thursday Manchester’s bi-monthly art walk returns to guide visitors through a selection of the city’s best and brightest exhibits. On this upcoming walk attendants will be treated to work in the Manchester Art Gallery, Cornerhouse and the Castlefield Gallery.

The work explores the theme of individualism within a deranged world

This walk will be the second in the series of tours which offer an opportunity for people of all ages to engage with art across the city in a sociable and easy going environment, with talks from experts on the art in question.

The two hour, mile long walk begins at the Manchester Art Gallery where two installations from the ongoing celebration of West African culture ‘We Face Forward’ will be introduced. The first is El Anatsui’s majestic and evocative textile sculpture ‘In the World But Don’t Know the World’. The second is Barthélémy Toguo’s tribute to Bob Marley’s final concert ‘Redemption’, a brand new addition to the gallery.

Next stop on the tour is the Cornerhouse where walkers will experience a taste of the Abandon Normal Devices Festival which opens next Wednesday. The festival is a forward thinking event which aims to give exposure to emerging talents in the field of new cinema, digital culture and art and seeks to break down the fourth wall between artist and audience.

Included in the introduction to Abandon Normal Devices will be a look at LA-based artist Stanya Kahn’s first UK exhibition ‘It’s Cool, I’m Good’. The work explores the theme of individualism within a deranged world and fluctuates between endearing video studies of Kahn’s friends and family and dark monologues more closely resembling the artist’s earlier work.

The walking tour finishes in the Castlefield Gallery which is newly reopened for Dave Griffiths’ exhibition Babel Fiche.

Walkers will be able to view Griffiths’ eponymous film Babel Fiche which interrogates the concept of digital image archives through a juxtaposition of images found on the internet with out of use technology such as microfiche film.

The tours are £4 per person and booking is recommended - click here. The tour begins at 5.30pm at the Manchester Art Gallery.
