UPDATE 04/02/15: It is reported that although SDB Bars has gone into liquidation, Eden Bar was immediately bought by another party and is undergoing a refurb.

EDEN Bar - which opened in the centre of the Gay Village over a decade ago and became known as 'the floating boat' or 'the one with the barge' - has closed on Brazil Street.

Nearby building works and the subsequent loss of trade have been blamed for the closure of the bar-restaurant and loss of eighteen jobs.

On 7 January, the bar announced via social media they'd be closed 'until the beginning of February whilst the old girl has a spruce up'.

Owners SDB Bars - who took over the bar in 2012 - have appointed insolvency practitioner Steven Wiseglass of Inquesta.

Wiseglass said the stricken bar - at the site of the former Metz Cafe Bar - was left 'virtually marooned' by the building site which made it inaccesible and near invisible to potential punters. Metz bar was one of the early adopters of Canal Street when it exploded on the night-time scene in the 1990s.

It is rumoured Living Ventures are lining-up the site for the next Grand Pacific roll-out... perhaps... something like that... you never know.
