SUMMER blossom is in the air, nature is at her brightest and blowsiest and it’s time to celebrate the British garden with Dig The City, Manchester’s urban gardening festival.
Dig the City will unfurl its delights from King Street to the cathedral, sending out shoots of green from Saturday 2 August – Sunday 10 August.
There’ll be food, flowers and a fête as well as gardens galore, pop-up picnics and masses to dig and do for youngsters.

There’ll be food, flowers and a fête as well as gardens galore, pop-up picnics and masses to dig and do for youngsters. Expect all-manner of green-fingered delights ranging from the prettily floral to the intriguingly historical as Ordsall Hall bring an edible Tudor garden to the festival.
There’s never a dull minute at Dig The City with talks by TV gardening experts Diarmuid Gavin and Rachel de Thame, arts and crafts markets, fine foods and, for the littlest green-fingered gardeners, the National Trust’s ’50 things to do before you’re 113/4’ treehouse is back for another year of thrills, spills and adventures. Kids can also enjoy giant garden games, Peppa Pig and Stockley Farm Park petting farm.
So get down and dance around the plants at the St. Anne’s Square festival hub, throw some shapes at the Dig The City Disco, relax with a well-earned drink and try to win Best in Show at the W.I. city fête or the RSPCA dog show.
Stores across the city centre will be getting green-fingered, hosting Dig the City events and offering a variety of competitions, promotions, complimentary treatments and refreshments.
Dig The City is free and it’s sure to be the best garden party in town.
