WHEN I took my son Bradley and his friend Zach to Legoland® Discovery Centre, I hadn't seen such excitement since Christmas Eve – and that's just me. Legoland® doesn't really blow its own trumpet, but it's worth a fanfare on the hour, every hour. If I'd known how close it was, I'd have been using a trip to Legoland® Discovery Centre as leverage in all sorts of high-level negotiations on such topics as homework, bedtimes and tidying up.

Legoland gets it spot on

Legoland® Discovery Centre is a great place to go with the family. It's fun. Really fun. Hands-on, giggling like a loon, active fun. But it's also (whisper it) educational too.

Stomping on the floor is always going to appeal to your average eight-year old but when it's used to explain the pressure needed to make a Lego® brick – the equivalent of three elephants, if you're interested – that's where Legoland® Discovery Centre gets it spot on.

Legoland® Discovery Centre also gets it right by appealing to families – the whole family. We all enjoyed the Kingdom Quest Laser Ride, shooting at goblins and spiders but it has to be said that Bradley still got the highest score.

Gathered round the Earthquake table, trying to build indestructible skyscrapers, it was great to all be doing something together. Legoland® is the perfect blend of traditional fun, like building with blocks, and hi-tech bits of kit and both had Bradley and Zach hooked.

The 4D cinema was a big hit. We were one of the first to see the opening episode of Lego® Chima which made us feel like VIPs at a red-carpet première. The film, about Lego® animals on a tour round the mythical land of Chima, was packed full of special effects.

Our favourite bits were the horse game which brought out the competitive side in all of us and the football game which did the same. And who could forget the sound of Zach singing his heart out in the Lego® Friends house?

As a parent, I loved the fact that the staff were so friendly and I was able to relax, knowing the kids were alright. The Merlin annual pass looked good value too so we'll definitely be back.
