IF you haven’t already made plans for the Bank Holiday weekend, visiting the Bolton Food and Drink Festival could be the most satisfyingly spontaneous venture you make.
Double Michelin starred chef Michael Caines will provide two free demonstrations, the first in the Festival Marquee, Victoria Square at 12.30pm and the second in The Market Place, Knowsley Street at 2.30pm
From 23-26 August a feast of top class cookery demonstrations by celebrity chefs will be dished up, including Michael Caines MBE, Aldo Zilli, Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry.
After helping to officially launch the festival on Friday, double Michelin starred chef Michael Caines will provide two free demonstrations, the first in the Festival Marquee, Victoria Square at 12.30pm and the second in The Market Place, Knowsley Street at 2.30pm
In addition, a host of regional, high profile chefs, who are passionate about food, will delight visitors for free, with cooking demonstrations over the four days at Bolton Market, on Ashburner Street, the Market Place Shopping Centre and in Victoria Square.
Delivering free demos on Friday will be Aazam Ahmad, BBC Fusion Chef of the Year, who will be creating his signature Asian fusion dishes at Bolton Market at 10am and then at the Festival Marquee, Victoria Square at 2.30pm. Born and bred in Manchester, Aazam has a passion for his city and world cuisine. He has spent time in the Far East, including China and Hong Kong, where he cooked regional delicacies. Aazam fuses English with Far Eastern styles.
On Saturday 24, Sean Wilson from Channel 5’s Great Northern Cookbook will be on hand to delight onlookers with some of his exciting recipes and top cooking tips. Sean has cooked in several Michelin starred restaurants and is also a cheesemaker, with his own cheese company. Sean will be at Market Place Shopping Centre at 12 noon. He will also be performing two live demonstrations at Bolton Market, Ashburner Street at 10am and 2pm.
Justine Forrest from Longridge in Lancashire, won the top spot in ITV’s Michael Winner’s Dining Stars in 2010. She is renowned for her cakes and puddings, especially her warm chocolate brownies which Michael Winner declared were the best he had ever tasted. She now has a successful online business. Justine will be demonstrating her baking techniques at 2pm on Saturday, then again at 4pm on Monday, both in the Market Place Shopping Centre.
Bolton's Anjali Pathak returns to the festival on Sunday 25. Anjali is part of the Indian food dynasty, Patak's. Anjali is a respected chef with a qualification from the prestigious Leiths School of Food and Wine. She has also been shortlisted for a number of awards for her work with Indian food and flavours. She spends her time hosting cookery classes and developing recipes that suit Patak’s pastes, sauces and chutneys. Anjali will be performing twice in the Market Place Shopping Centre at 1pm and then 3pm.
Finally, on Monday, Andrew Nutter from Nutters Restaurant in Rochdale will be in the Market Place Shopping Centre at 11am and again at 3pm. Andrew is one of the most innovative of the new breed of celebrity chefs. He opened the Nutters restaurant at the age of 21. The restaurant is hugely successful and sits on the site of an 18th century manor house in six and a half acres of parkland.
